Lemonade stand to benefit cancer research

For the eighth year, Cathy Cropley and her daughter Jessie will be hosting a lemonade stand to raise money and awareness of pediatric cancer research through the national Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation charity.
Usually held in June for national Lemonade Stand Days, this year the stand will be held in September in connection with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Strawberry Shortcake is a big sponsor of events held in September, so the stand will have a similar theme.

ALEX’S LEMONADE STAND — For the eighth year in a row, Jessica Cropley and her mother, Cathy Cropley, will host Alex’s Lemonade Stand to benefit pediatric cancer research. They will be set up on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mars Hill IGA.
As a point of interest, this stand is the only one in Maine that’s been held for eight years. In 2000, Alexandra “Alex” Scott was born in Pennsylvania with cancer but by the age of 4 she decided to give back and prevent this disease by hosting a lemonade stand. Her efforts went national in 2004 with the goals of having stands hosted all across the U.S. and to raise $1 million.
The Cropley’s stand was the only one held in Maine that year, working towards those goals. Although ALSF reached the $1 million goal in 2004, Alex didn’t live to see it come to fruition. However, the Scott family and supporters over the years have now raised over $40 million to date!
Alex’s Lemonade Stand to benefit pediatric cancer research will be set up on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mars Hill IGA. For more information, contact Cathy at 429-8043 or check out www.Alex’sLemonade.org.
Bridgewater Historical
The Bridgewater Historical Association would like to invite everyone to a Potluck Supper and Game Night on Friday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. at the hall on Main Street in Bridgewater. Bring enough food to share with others. There will be a bunch of different games to play (Scrabble, Pit, Clue, Trivia, etc.) All are welcome.
Don’t forget, there is music by Outside In on Thursday nights from 6-9. It is a night of fun and dancing.
Organizers are hoping to have the folks from Northeast Archeological Research Company come to the hall and do a presentation of what was found at the border dig. They’ll keep the public posted on this and all other events.
Last but not least, there will be a Halloween Dance at the end of October, so get your costumes ready. Last year there almost 100 percent of participants took part in costumes. Maybe this year everyone will come in costume.
Come out and have a good time at the BHA Hall. For more info, contact Jann Votaw at 425-7901.
