Benefit dinner and auction to aid Young family

MARS HILL NEWS

by Tomi Henderson

The community is once again pulling together to help one of its own.

The public is encouraged to rally around the Young family. Herb Young was injured in an automobile accident on Sept. 3, leaving him in critical condition at EMMC. A dinner and auction will be held at CAHS on Saturday, Oct. 1. All money raised will be used by the Youngs as they face many financial and medical challenges. Thank you for your support.

If you have questions, wish to donate an auction item or want to help at the dinner, contact Tiffany Faulkner at 227-7195 or Jamie Guerrette at 227-7194.

Frank Jr. “Sam” and Dawn Mahan celebrated their 60th anniversary with friends and family on Saturday, Sept. 24.

They are pictured with seven of their eight children.

Pictured clockwise from front left, in order of birth are: (seated) Julie, Sam, Dawn, Rodney, (standing) Molly, (Nancy is away), Bethany, Tammy, Glenney and Stacey.

It was fun to note that most all of the family pictures done over the years had the kids lined up in order of age!

Adult Education

SAD 42 Adult Ed fall semester will be starting Monday, Oct. 17, and run through Thursday, Dec. 8. Classes being offered are: Quilting, Woodworking, Cardio Kick Aerobics and two new classes — Primitive Crafts and Frugal Living or “The Way Life Used To Be.”

Call Kathy at 425-3771 to register or for more information. Some classes are limited so register early.

Bridgewater Historical

The Bridgewater Historical Association will hold a Bridgewater silent auction at their hall on Main Road in Bridgewater, on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. The style of auction they use was formerly known as a Chinese auction. No one seems to know why they were called this, however, not wanting to offend anyone, the BHA has renamed it the Bridgewater silent auction. In the past the BHA has held a few of these style auctions. The auctions are a lot of fun and the BHA has many items up for auction. There is still time to make a donation of items for the auction. If you would like to do so, contact the BHA.

On Oct, 14 and 15, the BHA will be holding its final Yard Sale of the year. This one will not include items from the hall. Some of the BHA members have rented tables and it will be those items on sale.

Don’t forget the Halloween Dance is coming up soon, so get those costumes ready. It is planned for the 29th of October. It’s hoped everyone will come in costume this year. Last year there were only a few guests out of costume. There will be door prizes and costume prizes, so come on out and have a good time. Music will be by Outside In.

There are still a few weeks left to enjoy the sounds of Outside In on Thursday nights. So make sure you take the time and come to the hall. Fun is always had by all. Music runs from 6-9 p.m. Our musicians are all volunteers and the BHA sincerely appreciates their time, talent and dedication. Refreshments are available at the hall.

For more information about the Bridgewater Historical Association, contact P. O. Box 341, Bridgewater, ME 04735 or call Jann Votaw, president, at 425-7901.

During Fireman Fred’s Show, even the helpers were kicking up their heels! Tayrn Parsons and Regina Craig took time to move to the music before helping to dish out dessert.
