Hodgdon varsity girls coach Anita Levesque said her team is rebuilding this season, with three seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and five freshmen.
“We are a very young team,” she said.
With just enough players, a problem occurring within games is the lack of players to substitute.
“We have only one sub because of college classes, and at some games, we have no subs,” said Levesque. “There may be a game where we play short-handed.”

sp-hodgirls-dc3-pt-39OUCH — East Grand goalie Jayne Cousins slides out to stop a shot and lands squarely on the knee of  a sliding Hodgdon’s Britta Oliver in last week’s game in Hodgdon.

According to Levesque, the Lady Hawks’ front line players — senior Britta Oliver, junior Kensie Palmer and freshman Rachel Harmon — are steadfast.
“They have been working well together,” said Levesque.
At halfback are Macy Palmer, Kimberly Levesque and Courtney Jurson.
“Macy is doing an awesome job,” said Levesque. “I brought out Kim from goal to help give us more strength in the halfback position and Courtney has been doing a great job, too. They all have been working really hard.”
At halfback, there are no substitutes, so players are subbing between other defensive positions to get a breather, according to Levesque.
“My fullbacks are young with only one senior,” Levesque said. “I moved Jessi Tracy to fullback which has given us some more strength, along with Coreen Jurson and Jessica Neher.”
Combining in goal are Cassidy Clark and Jamie Theriault.
“They are both doing a good job,” said Levesque. “They hustle on the field.”
Rounding out the squad is newcomer Molly Veysey.
“She has never played,” said Levesque. “She has been working her heart out. She has played all positions, except goalie.”
Senior captains are Oliver, C. Jurson and Levesque.

sp-hodgirls-dc1-pt-39MAKING HER MARK — Shaunna Beaudoin is making her mark in East Grand School’s sports. Beaudoin is the Lady Vikes leading scorer and may even shatter the school’s scoring record.

“They have been great role models for the team,” said Levesque.
The Lady Hawks remain in Class C this season and play a competitive schedule, including teams from Houlton, Schenck, Limestone, Central Aroostook, Wisdom and East Grand.
“We are taking one game at a time and hope to improve the next time we play our opponent,” explained Levesque.
Even though the Lady Hawks are struggling to get into the win column, if the team continues improvement those wins will come.
“As long as they improve with each game, I will be happy,” Levesque noted. “They are a great bunch of girls and they are having a good time.”
