The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s soccer team split a pair of road matches over the weekend.
The last time Maine Maritime Academy took on the UMPI men’s soccer team, the Mariners came away with a 2-1 overtime win. In the rematch between the two teams, the battle again went right down to the wire. Nate Tipton scored the game’s only goal to lead MMA to a 1-0 win over Presque Isle on Sunday.
On Saturday the Owls picked up their fourth win of the year by stopping Fisher College.
Aaron Hutchins was the offensive star, scoring two goals and assisting on two others as the Owls defeated the Falcons, 5-2.
Also getting in on the scoring for the Owls were Kyle Corrigan and Brandon Caverhill, both of Caribou, and Jeremy Tarr of Ashland. The goals by Caverhill and Tarr marked the first of the season for each player.
The win gave UMPI a season sweep of Fisher as they knocked off the Falcons two weeks ago in Presque Isle, 11-1.
The Owls return to action for the final time in 2011 next Sunday at UMaine-Machias. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
