Mapleton potato chips bound for Tennessee

WESTBROOK — IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. has announced that the company will celebrate the expansion of its Memphis, Tenn.-based reference laboratory and distribution center by treating employees and guests to Maine lobster and Aroostook County potato chips at events to be held this week.

Morrison’s Maine Course and Harbor Fish Market, both in Portland, will be shipping fresh lobster products to Memphis, while Mapleton-based Fox Family Potato Chips will provide snacks made from Aroostook County potatoes.

“IDEXX is headquartered in Maine, so we thought there is no better way to celebrate our accomplishments than by sharing a little bit of what makes our home state so special,” said Betsy Richards, business communications manager for IDEXX.

IDEXX leadership will announce at a news conference that the company has completed a multi-year $13.5 million expansion to its Memphis reference laboratory and distribution center. Since 2002, the facility has more than quadrupled its workforce, and this most recent expansion will result in as many as 92 new jobs.

“We’re thrilled that IDEXX thought of us for this important event,” said Rhett Fox, president of Fox Family Potato Chips. “IDEXX is an important engine for jobs and innovation in the state, and their support of other businesses exemplifies their leadership here and elsewhere.”

IDEXX recently announced an investment in its Westbrook-based headquarters of more than $60 million in facilities and equipment during the two phases of a 200,000 square foot development. Upon its completion, the new facility will be the first certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building in Westbrook, with additional space to support up to 700 new employees in Maine.
