THE ASHLAND TILLIKUM CHAPTER 99 Order of the Eastern Star recently made several cash donations to local organizations. The Ashland Food Pantry and the Ashland District School PTO were the fortunate recipients of these very generous donations.

Here, from left: Worthy Matron Heather Clark presents a donation to Ashland Food Pantry representative Donna Martin and Andrea White, a representative for the Ashland PTO, receives a donation from Tillikum Grand representative, Sheila Buckingham.

The Chapter presented the Ashland Food Pantry with a check for $50. This generous donation will surely come in handy at this time of year. The Chapter also presented the Ashland District School PTO with a $50 donation to their organization.

Cub Scout news

The new Scouting year kicked off in October with the addition of eight new Scouts to Pack 179 (Ashland).

For first-grade Tigers: Austin Clark and Brady Cowett; second-grade Wolves: Owen Burby, Zachary Clark and Eli Walker; and third-grade Bears: Emmit Rushinal, Creed Chasse and Gabe Page. The new Scouts are currently working on their Bobcat requirements, the first badge that must be achieved in Cub Scouting. An official Bobcat ceremony will be held Nov. 18 for the Scouts and their families.

One of the first Pack activities for this year was to decorate the Orion window for Halloween. This is the fourth consecutive year that Scouts have done so and was it ever done up! Werewolves, skeletons, ghosts and gravestones — very scary and festive. Great job boys!

On Oct. 15, Webelo I Scout Graham Berry attended a Webeloree at Baptist Park in Mapleton.

While there he worked on several of his activity badges including Readyman, Geologist, Naturalist and Forester. He also got to try his hand at Morse code and was able to communicate with an individual from the Czech Republic via ham radio.

It was an interesting and fun day for all Scouts in attendance, despite the poor weather.
