‘Mews and Yips’ from the  Central Aroostook Humane Society

By Christine Cowett Robinson

Special to The Star-Herald

So our second annual “Toast for the Animals” was a huge success! The Crow’s Nest was a wonderful spot, plenty of room to mingle and shop through the items that were donated for our silent auction. What awesomely diverse items we had to auction off, I was just amazed.

The crowd was diverse, too; I saw many friends and met many new people. A total of 148 people attended this event, and the total amount that was raised to help the animals at the Central Aroostook Humane Society was $5,658.81. That just blows my mind; it was a lot of work by the Friends of CAHS group, a lot of donations from friends and businesses, and a lot of participation. This was beyond awesome.

We followed our Toast for the Animals with Rockin’ for Rover on Saturday night. That was also a very fun event, we drew a fun crowd and the band K.E.G. was awesome playing old-time rock and roll. Both events were a lot of fun and the effort made by all involved was greatly appreciated. These are much-needed funds to help our shelter be the best it can be.

Have you ever wanted to help the Central Aroostook Humane Society, but weren’t quite sure what to do? Well if you would like to become a volunteer, there are many different ways you can help us. First, go to the shelter at 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, and fill out an application and release form. Our manager will explain the many ways you can help.

Our volunteers serve many different functions, so let our manager know what you are interested in doing. Are you interested in helping with the daily cleaning of dogs or cats? Maybe you only want to brush cats or walk dogs. Or you could help with transporting animals to vet appointments or help us with nursing home visits. Our volunteers are also encouraged to help us with fundraisers and public functions to help raise awareness. Whatever it is that you would like to do; the shelter can find a place where you can help. Give us a call and we can discuss the options! We look forward to hearing from you. You could also join our Friends of CAHS group by sending an e-mail to FriendsofCahs@yahoo.com.

We have so many wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption at the Central Aroostook Humane Society. Please visit our little shelter and meet them. These animals deserve loving responsible homes where they can live their lives as part of a family.

If you’re looking for a friend for life, please visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We are open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or log onto www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org.

Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
