America’s legacy of broken promises

To the editor:

I am a registered Republican and at the present time am fed up and outraged at the conduct of the Republican Party. Never in the history of American politics have a group of people took on the position that they have all the answers to the problem solving. They are going to be the savior of our country and way of life. The Republicans blame the Democratic Party and President Obama for the conditions that exist in America but this isn’t true.

America started on the road to disaster years ago when the government took on the role of policing the world and changing the governments of other countries. Then the big corporations started moving their operations to foreign countries so they could produce their products with cheap labor.

There is not one Republican running for office that I would vote for. The Republican Party is out of touch with reality and have forgotten what they were sent to Washington to do – represent the American people and their welfare. Instead of representing the people, they protect the rich and the big corporations, while in turn building their own retirement empires, all at the expense of the American taxpayers.

Broken promises by the American government started years ago with the American Indians and has continued down through the years. In the past years, they have broken their promises to the people who have served in our military forces, starting with World War I, when the veterans were gassed at the White House while protesting. They promised the service men and women if they would fight the Korean and Vietnam wars they would be taken care of for the rest of their lives. It wasn’t until the 1990s that they finally lived up to their promises and now they want to take away or decrease the pay and benefits of these people. We have veterans dying today because the government has failed to provide health care for them.

I served 21 years in the Air Force and was proud to serve my country. Would I do it again? No! Do I think it’s right for the government to reduce my benefits? No! Would I tell a young person, if asked, should they join the military? No! It’s not worth it.

There are many in Washington who think the benefits of our retired military are too generous. Is there a set price for the blood or life of a service man or woman? I get $16,000 a year retirement for 21 years of service, laying my life on the line all in the name of national security and the politicians in Washington retire with $200,000 a year and their lives are never in any danger. How far is too far?

If ever there was a time when a government was out of control, it is now. It is disgusting to see educated adult people conducting themselves as they are today who call themselves leaders of our country. The Wall Street protesting is just an example of what the American people are feeling and a reflection of what is going to take place in the future as the government actions indicate they have answered the question, how far is too far.

Election Day is just one year away! Also, Judgment Day is coming to America!
