Dental clinic needs your support
To the editor:
What does a child’s smile mean to you? Whether it is across a room, walking down the street or in your arms, a child’s smile is contagious and magical.
No child should be deprived of this natural and beautiful gift. Unfortunately, some are. Have you ever witnessed a child refusing to smile or eat certain foods because their teeth may not look quite the same as everyone else’s or a tooth hurts too much to take a bite? This does not need to continue for Aroostook County children thanks to the St. Apollonia Dental Clinic, the Presque Isle Rotary Club’s 2011 Rotary Auction Special Project recipient.
St. Apollonia at 122 Academy Street in Presque Isle is a nonprofit and handicapped accessible dental clinic that will accept MaineCare and will provide a dental home primarily for children, adolescents and their families without private health insurance who typically have difficulty “getting in” to a dental office. Right now, many of these families have to go to Bangor for their dental care. Referrals will be accepted from Headstart, area physicians, school nurses, hospitals, oral surgeons, and private dental offices that cannot serve the dental needs of needy children.
On Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1st, the Presque Isle Rotary Club will work with members of the community to raise at least $25,000 for the St. Apollonia Dental Clinic. As you watch the Rotary Auction on Time Warner Cable Channel 9 or listen to Big Country 96.9 or follow the webcast online, please consider a tax-exempt donation to the St. Apollonia Dental Clinic.
Just call 764-7688 during the auction to make a donation that will protect and preserve smiles throughout Aroostook County.
