KENNEY, Murray E., 93, PRESQUE ISLE, December 3, 2011. Relatives and friends may call on Sat., Dec. 10, from 10:30 until the 11:30 memorial service at the Mapleton Methodist Church. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.

    PRESQUE ISLE – Murray E. Kenney, 93, went to be with his Lord on Dec. 3, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 3, 1918, in Presque Isle the son of Iva (Bean) and Bernard W. Kenney. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1936, and in 1940, he married Lena (Dudley).

    Murray bought his first farm in 1943 in Castle Hill, then later added the Carvell Farm in Mapleton in 1952. In the 1960’s, he started his venture of racing harness horses with Ray Ireland. In the mid 70’s, he had the top two-year-olds in the state of Maine with Persuadable and Yankee-B-Gone. He farmed in Mapleton, Castle Hill and Washburn until he retired and sold the farm to his son, Maylen.

    Murray and Lena moved to Presque Isle in 1984 and wintered in Sebastian, FL, until 1999. Murray was a member of the Castle Hill Grange, the Masonic Lodge, the Young Farmers Association, a director of the Northern Maine Fair, a selectman of Castle Hill and was a 50 year member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church.

    Murray was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Darrell and Clayton; a brother, Harold; and sisters, Opal Bagley, Audrey Gould, Mildred Lint and Rowena Gove.

    He is survived by Lena, his wife of 71 years; three sons, Russell and wife, Kay (House) of Portland and their sons, Barry (Patty) and sons, Dylan, and Caleb, David (Lori) and children; Tyler and Alayna; and daughter, Michelle (Jim May) and children, Kayleigh, Brian, and Aidan; Maylen and wife, Judy (Packard) of Castle Hill and son, Mark, and daughter, Stacey (Leif Peterson) and children, Emily and Joshua; Kendall and companion, Wendy Holt of Cape Elizabeth, and his daughters, Meghann and son, Tyler, Kate, and his son, Alex; two daughters, Janet and husband, David Hopkins of Leeds, and daughters, Holly (Bill Higgins), Heather (Mike Dixon) and children, Conner and Kylee, Krista, and one son, David-Michael; Karel and companion, Pierre Laplante of Van Buren and her son, Scott (Kristy) and son, Mathew; brothers, Beryl of Presque Isle, Lyle of Mapleton, sisters, Ruth Chaisson of Yarmouth, Christine McPherson of Mapleton, and Althea Sweeney of Portland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10:30 until the 11:30 memorial service at the Mapleton Methodist Church.
