American Flag ColorMARS HILL – William Cumming Langley, 87, died December 4, 2011, at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, surrounded by his family. He was born February 28, 1924, in Easton, the son of P. Berfield and Elizabeth (Cumming) Langley. He had lived most of his life in Mars Hill, having attended local schools including Aroostook Central Institute.

    Before entering the service, he was a student at the University of Maine at Orono for a short time and later graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. While in the military, he served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

    For many years, he farmed and was also employed for nineteen years at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, having retired in 1989.

    He is survived by his wife, Marion (Bell) Langley; a son, Brent, both of Mars Hill; a daughter, Paula Beardon and her husband, Brian of Somers-worth, NH; two grandchildren; Bethany and Luke Reardon; a sister–in-law, Ethelyn Langley of Presque Isle and Florida; as well as many relatives and friends.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Earl Langley; and a sister, Dorine Tupper.

    By his request, there will be a graveside service only for family and friends on Wednesday, December 7, at 1 p.m. at Pierce Cemetery in Mars Hill.
