Regular season to get under way Friday

The 2011-12 high school basketball regular season gets under way this weekend with plenty of games on tap to entertain the fans.

On Friday in boys action, LCS/MSSM hosts Fort Fairfield at 7 p.m. and Southern Aroostook travels to Mars Hill to play Central Aroostook, also at 7 p.m. The only girls’ game on the schedule for Friday is LCS/MSSM at Van Buren, with a 6 p.m. start time.

On Saturday, the Fort Fairfield girls travel to Stacyville to take on Katahdin at 2:30 p.m. The other varsity girls’ games on Saturday are: Hermon at Presque Isle at 3 p.m., Easton at East Grand at 2 p.m. and Caribou travels to Bangor to play John Bapst at 1:30 p.m.

The boys’ schedule for Saturday includes: Hermon at Presque Isle at 4:30 p.m., Easton at East Grand at 3:30 p.m., Caribou at John Bapst at 4:30 p.m. and Washburn at Ashland at 7 p.m.

On Monday in schoolgirl basketball, Ashland is at East Grand at 5 p.m., Van Buren at Easton at 6 p.m. and Washburn travels to Fort Fairfield for a 7 p.m. start.

That evening for boys’ basketball LCS/MSSM hosts Southern Aroostook at 6:30 p.m. and Ashland at East Grand, also at 6:30 p.m.

The only games Tuesday involving local teams is the Fort Fairfield boys hosting Central Aroostook at 7 p.m. and the Caribou girls opening up their home schedule against Fort Kent, also at 7 p.m.
