UMPI athletes named All-Academic

PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle has announced that 16 of its fall sports athletes have been named to the USCAA All-Academic team. The honor is given to all sophomore, junior and senior students-athletes who have excelled off the field by achieving a 3.5 GPA or better.

Women’s soccer and cross country were the most represented Owl teams with four student-athletes each.

Soccer players Jacquelyn Poulin of Washburn, Susan Lavertu of Madwaska, Carolyn Tuck of Brewerm Taylor Ussery of La Verne, Calif., Kyle Corrigan of Caribou and Lucas Bartlett of Bradley were named All-Academic.

Receiving the honor from the cross country teams were Sarah Taylor of Industry, Carly Langley of Truro, Nova Scotia, Kati Christoffel of Clifton Park, N.J., LeAnn Abbott of Sumner, Philip Boody of New Sweden, Richard Landry of Millbridge and Justin Freshetian of Turner.

From the women’s volleyball team Shaina Hood of Princeton and Randi Kaplan of Embden were selected.

The men’s golf team had a lone representative, Mike Balmer of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
