Strong showing for Caribou wrestlers

CARIBOU — Fifteen Caribou High School wrestlers scored top four finishes in the Caribou Wrestling Invitational held on Saturday. The team also won the meet with 153 points, topping Fort Kent’s 97, Washington Academy was third with 57 points, followed by Calais with 52 and Woodland with 41 points.

Earning gold medals at the meet for Caribou were: Deion Caudill (182 lbs.), Matt Manter (195 lbs.) Bruce Brayall (285 lbs.), Robert Caudill (126 lbs.), Michael Selander (138 lbs.), and Colby Conroy (152 lbs.).

Silver medalists are Brendan Wood (132 lbs.), Andrew Michaud (170 lbs.), Tyler Charette (182 lbs.), Aaron Simon (195 lbs.) and Jacob Sperry (285 lbs.).

Stephen Schwartz (152 lbs.) was a bronze medalist.

Fourth-place winners were DJ Pizutti (145 lbs.), Tom McLean (132 lbs.) and Jared Keaton (220 lbs.)

Caribou wrestling coach James “Chico” Hernandez said the highlight match of the meet was between Caribou’s Wood and Fort Kent’s Cody Lozier. Lozier, the defending PVC champion, topped Wood 4-3.

“I was very pleased with Brendan’s effort,” said Hernandez. “He is a very solid wrestler.”

Their next meet is Saturday at Dexter Regional High School at 1 p.m.
