Local hospital a real gem

To the editor:

Aroostook County is fortunate to have a hospital like Cary Medical Center. It has been my pleasure to be a guest of Caribou for the past six months, and to work as a doctor in the Emergency Department. I am writing just to let the community know how special this hospital is; folks might not realize it because they don’t have something to compare to.

I’ve been a doctor for 20 years, and have travelled around the country for a good bit of that, practicing in about 50 hospitals. I have never seen a small town hospital that was as well-staffed as Cary.

The nurses and doctors are really excellent. The level of services available in the lab and radiology, are way above what I have seen elsewhere in comparably-sized hospitals. At most ERs in America, patients wait three or four hours or more to be seen; not so at Cary. Patients who need to be admitted are seen promptly by topnotch hospitalists like you would find at a referral center in a big city. Though I did not work with them as much, you have outstanding Pediatricians, OBs, and other specialists on staff.

As an outsider, I’ll give you an honest opinion — you’re not going to find a better small hospital anywhere in the country. Next time you visit Cary, show ‘em some love — it’s a real gem.
