off to a strong start

    Washburn, Presque Isle, Central Aroostook and Easton have all started the schoolboy basketball season without a loss.

    Here’s a recap of the games played through Monday, Dec. 19:

    Central Aroostook 85, Ashland 36 — On Monday, the Central Aroostook Panthers roared out to a fast start going up on the visiting Ashland Hornets, 14-0, early in the first quarter to cruise to their fourth win of the season against no losses.

    Chandler Brewer paced the winners with 17 points and Mike McClung added 15. Brendan York chipped in with 12 points while Steven Decker and Ross Grass each put in 11.

    Alex Chasse scored 12 points to lead 1-4 Ashland.

    Easton 54, Fort Fairfield 26 — The Easton Bears are unbeaten in their first three games after downing Fort Fairfield, 54-26, in Easton on Monday.

    Reid Clark scored 16 points and Jonah Bacon added 15 and eight rebounds as the unbeaten Bears scored their third win of the season.

    Andrew Tuck scored 10 points for Fort Fairfield, now 0-4.

    Presque Isle 61, Old Town 39 — The Presque Isle Wildcats are 3-0 on the young season after a strong outing on the road in Old Town on Saturday.

    The bigger Wildcats controlled the inside against the Coyotes. The starting frontcourt for Presque Isle, 6-6 Matt Eager, 6-5 Tyler Brooks and 6-3 Andrew Kofstad, combined for 52 points. Eager had a team high 20 points.

    Old Town fell to 0-3.

    The Wildcats are on the road again on Friday taking on John Bapst at 5:30 p.m.

    Hermon 48, Caribou 38 — The Caribou Vikings were back on the road Saturday looking to pick up win number two on the season, but Hermon got out to an early lead and won 48-38.

    Caribou, down 15 points in the fourth quarter, did make a game of it roaring back to within five points with 45 seconds to play, but couldn’t close the gap any more.

    Cody Hebert paced the 1-1 Vikings with 11 points. Dayne Savage chipped in nine and Chad Caverhill had seven.

    Caribou is home tonight against Fort Kent at 7 p.m.

    Washburn 93, Van Buren 47 — The high-scoring Washburn Beavers cracked the 90-point mark again Friday night in a home game against Van Buren and won handily over the Crusaders, 93-47.

    The Beavers (2-0) used a halfcourt trap to take control of the game in the third quarter outscoring Van Buren, 46-17, in the second half en route to the victory.

    Jordan McLaughlin led the Beavers with 29 points. Mitch Worcester scored 26 points and Chase Chandler tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds.

    The Crusaders (0-3) were led by Marc LaJoie with 11 points and 16 rebounds and Jordan Banks had eight points and 15 rebounds. Eric Laplante added nine points

    Limestone/MSSM 50, Ashland 26 — The Limestone Community School/MSSM Eagles upped their record to 3-0 on Friday with an easy win over Ashland.

    Chad Paradis led Limestone with 12 points. Bret Butler tallied 10 points, Brandon Thompson netted nine and Cody Bryant contributed eight for the Eagles.

    Tyler Levesque and Tyler Chasse led Ashland with eight and seven points, respectively.

    Hodgdon 66, Fort Fairfield 57 — A big fourth quarter propelled the visiting Hodgdon Hawks to a nine point win over Fort Fairfield on Thursday evening. The Hawks outscored the Tigers, 19-10, in the fourth quarter.

    Nick Lunn had a game-high 32 points for Hodgdon. Chris Hudson scored 13 points and Josh Hudson posted 12 for 3-0 Hawks.

    Andrew Lewis tossed in 21 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead 0-3 Fort Fairfield. Dereck Dufour netted 12 points.

    Presque Isle 56, Houlton 46 — The Presque Isle Wildcats upped their record to 2-0 on Wednesday with a 56-46 win over Houlton in the Shiretown.

    Andrew Kofstad had 13 points to lead three Wildcats in double figures. Tyler Brooks and Wilder York added 10 points apiece for PI.

    Presque Isle led throughout, but the Shiretowners outscored PI, 19-13, in the fourth quarter as they tried to close the gap.

    Houlton’s Kyle Bouchard scored a game-high 18 points.

    Easton 48, Limestone 45 — The Limestone Community School/MSSM boys basketball team dropped their first game of the season Wednesday as the visiting Easton Bears recorded a three-point win, 48-45,

    Jared Hafford connected for 26 points to power the Bears to victory.    Jonah Bacon scored 17 points while Reid Clark and Cody Thompkins contributed 14 and 11, respectively.

    Nate Tucker and Chris Paradis scored 10 points each for the 2-1 Eagles.

    Southern Aroostook 78, Ashland 23 — At Dyer Brook Wednesday, Jesse Poulier scored a game-high 22 points to propel the Warriors past the Hornets.

    William McGary posted 14 points for Southern Aroostook, Cody Lassonde added 11 and Joe Frazier had 10.

    Tyler Levesque led Ashland with seven points.
