    The second week of the high school basketball season got under way, with several area teams picking up victories.
    Last Tuesday, the Hodgdon Hawks overpowered visiting Van Buren, 64-41, behind Josh Hudson’s 26-point effort. Nick Lunn tossed in another 10 for the winners.
    Van Buren was led by Caleb Roy with 13 points and Eric LaPlante added 10.
    In the preliminary game, the Hodgdon j.v. defeated Van Buren, 53-25.
    On Thursday in Fort Fairfield, the Hawks brought home a 66-57 win over the Tigers — outscoring the host team 19-10 in the fourth — behind Nick Lunn’s exceptional performance of 32 points. Chris Hudson dropped in 13 and Josh Hudson another dozen. Devon Logie hauled down six boards.
    For Fort Fairfield, Andrew Lewis scored 21 and brought down 15 rebounds, as the Tigers slipped to 0-3.
    Last Wednesday, the Southern Aroostook Warriors picked up a 78-23 victory over visiting Ashland.
    Jesse Boulier led the Warriors with a game-high 22 points, while Will McGary tossed in 14. Cody Lassonde dropped in 11 and Joe Frazier added 10.
    For the Hornets, Tyler Levesque had seven points.
 Last Saturday, the Cougars’ Colton Bivighouse tallied a double-double to lead Katahdin to a 45-34 win against Bangor Christian. Bivighouse poured in 19 points and grabbed 13 boards to lead his team at Eastern Maine Community College.
    Jesse McNally scored 10 points and Braden Cunningham pulled down 11 rebounds for Katahdin.
    For the Patriots, Matt Swanson led the way with 10 points, as the team slips to 1-2.
