Thankful for City Council’s ability to plan ahead
To the editor:
The citizens of Presque Isle should be thankful that they have a City Council that sees and understands the budget problems that are facing us as the “free money” from the state and the feds (that pays a big share of our costs) is drying up. By trimming services now they are preventing major changes in the future.
As the hub city in the area, we will always have higher taxes than others in central Aroostook, however we pay close to the highest property tax in the state when compared on an income level and taxes do have an impact on people deciding where to live.
Also if all the surrounding towns want us to be their first provider for fire or anything else, then I would hope they would be willing to help carry the load.
With that said, I would like to thank the Council and ask that you keep up the good work.
