In recognition of her outstanding career performance and achievements, Sarah Anderson, CPhT, a certified pharmacy technician at Cary Medical Center, has received the 2011 Technician of the Year Award from the Maine Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Anderson was nominated by two of her hospital co-workers, Jason Tremblay, PharmD, RPh, Cary’s director of pharmacy; and Robert Lester, RPh, Cary pharmacist.
“Sarah has been a major contributor to the growth and development of the Cary pharmacy department,” Tremblay stated in his nomination letter. “Some of Sarah’s accomplishments include developing a standardized technician training program including chemotherapy preparation; assisting in the development and implementation of an inventory control process for medication bar-coding and budgetary compliance; and assisting management with departmental strategic planning.”
“In every department stars emerge and those stars nurture others to succeed,” Lester’s nomination letter stated. “Through leadership, coaching, encouragement, example and personal fortitude, they enable others, technicians and pharmacists alike, to shine. Enter Sarah Anderson — star. I am both proud and privileged to offer her name in nomination for this award,” he concluded.
An 11-year employee at Cary Medical Center, Anderson wasn’t aware that she had been nominated for the award. She commented that receiving the award was an honor; but that having the nomination letters alone were “enough for her.”
“To know that my colleagues see that potential in me, to be recognized by them and knowing what they think of my work, is the best gift in itself,” she said.
Cary’s pharmacy department staff has received several awards in the recent past. Tremblay was named the 2009 Maine Pharmacist of the Year by the Maine Society of Health System Pharmacists and Lester received the Society’s highest honor in 2011, the Marco Gasbarrone Lifetime Achievement Award.
