Casey Nichols of Caribou, is the 2011 recipient of the $750 Winnifred “Pete” Bell Scholarship managed by the Jefferson Cary Foundation (JCF). The scholarship was established in honor of Winnie Bell, a registered nurse who worked at Cary Medical Center for nearly 40 years on the obstetrics floor and as a nursing supervisor. The $750 scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing a degree in nursing. Nichols is currently enrolled in the bachelor of science in nursing degree program at the University of Southern Maine. She is the daughter of Peggy and Tracey Nichols of Caribou. Presenting Nichols with the scholarship funds are from left, Mary Harrigan, JCF executive director; Karla Bell (Winnie Bell’s daughter) and Pam Scheppele, president of the JCF board of directors.

The Cary Medical Center Auxiliary recently awarded their 2011 scholarship to Kayla Collins of Caribou. The Auxiliary awards the $500 scholarship annually to a high school senior who is pursuing a degree in a health care-related field. Collins is currently enrolled in the speech pathology program at the University of Maine at Orono. She is the daughter of Scott Collins of Virginia, and Shawn and Heidi Manter of Caribou.
