BILLERICA, Mass. – Merton Josiah James Jr. of Billerica, died January 17, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
He was a devoted husband of 60 years to Constance (Todero) James; loving father to Gary and Nancy James of Hanover, Kenneth James of Billerica, Steve and Rose James of North Andover, Ronald and Judi James of Townsend, Carol and Philip Geary of Billerica, Sandra and Michael Baia of Tewksbury; grampy to 17 adoring grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; son of Viola (Albert) James and Merton Josiah James Sr.; brother to Carl (Bucky) and Edeltraud James of Waltham, Francis (Smokey) and Donna James of Oakfield, and Richard (Mickey) and Barbara James of Bethel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Dad worked 45 years as a union oil burner service technician. He was also a skilled craftsman and an avid outdoorsman. He cherished the moments with family and friends, especially at the cottage on Wilson Lake, and the camps at Scraggly Lake. He spent many summers in Island Falls on beautiful Pleasant Pond. He joined his brother Smokey in the “James Brothers’ Oil Company” in 1975 and lived in Dyer Brook where he met many wonderful and welcoming friends.
At his request, there was no viewing or graveside service. Instead, family and friends were invited to a “Celebration of Life” gathering at the Billerica Country Club, 51 Baldwin Road, Billerica on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VNA/Hospice of Middlesex East, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
