Brevin Barnes, 8, the son of Michelle and Troy Barnes of Caribou had his arms full as he proudly displayed his ice-fishing trophy. The 24-inch, 5-pound, 15-ounce salmon was caught, as he and other family members were ice fishing at Alan and Joan Albert’s camp at Cross Lake on Jan. 7. The young angler said that while trying to pull the “monster” up through the hole, it was so strong that the line cut his gloves. Barnes also quietly added that this wasn’t his first catch of the day either, the first was 16 inches long and that was prepared and eaten but this big catch was to be preserved and mounted. Brevin is the grandson of Paul and Paula Barnes also of Caribou. He is a grade-three student at Teague Park Elementary School. Barnes was assisted in securing the catch of the day by his Dad and his cousin Matt Albert.
