A burglary case at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club in 2009 is one step closer to a conclusion, following the Jan. 10 trial of Richard Larsen Jr. in Caribou Superior Court, who was found guilty by jury in connection with the theft of numerous building materials.

The incident was first reported in September 2009 when club officials discovered items designated for the reconstruction of their clubhouse — which was destroyed by fire earlier in the year — were missing. A year-long investigation into the theft of over $11,000 in Andersen windows and miscellaneous building materials led to Richard Larsen Jr. and his son, Richard Larsen III, being charged with felony burglary and theft. Officer Kevin Reed of the Presque Isle Police Department headed the investigation.

Larsen Jr., who requested a jury trial, was convicted of burglary and theft, Class C crimes, according to Deputy District Attorney Carrie Linthicum.

“He was found not guilty of tampering with a witness and violation of bail,” said Linthicum.

Larsen Jr. is expected to be sentenced in the next few weeks. His son, Larsen III, is awaiting a court date.

“Richard Larsen III is awaiting his court appearance on burglary and theft charges in the same case,” said Linthicum.
