PI hockey team ranked fifth in Class B
The Presque Isle High School hockey team is currently in fifth place in the Class B Heal Point standings following a win and a loss over the weekend.
On Saturday the Wildcats were in Bangor to face the John Bapst Crusaders.
This match wouldn’t be decided until 48 seconds into overtime when Connor Shaw scored his third goal of the game to give Presque Isle a 4-3 victory.
Isaac LaJoie had three assists and Adam Flynn had two goals for the 6-5 Wildcats. Alex Michaud added an unassisted goal.
Nic Davis made 19 saves on 22 shots.
“We played well but the puck didn’t bounce our way,” said coach Dr. Carl Flynn. “Despite that we worked hard to get out goals. In the end, winning a close game in overtime will give us needed skills for playoff time.”
On Friday, also in Bangor, Presque Isle held Class A leading Bangor to only four goals, but couldn’t find the back of the net and lost the game, 4-0.
“We played our best game of the year against Bangor,” said the coach. “We were very aggressive and the puck just didn’t go in. The coaches and kids were happy with the performance.”
Davis made 32 saves for Presque Isle.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday night at 7 p.m. at home against Old Town, which is currently in third-place in Class B.
On Monday the Wildcats will play a makeup game against Lawrence at 3 p.m. at the Forum.
