Teams nearing the end of regular season play

    The regular high school basketball season play ends Feb. 10, with preliminaries Feb. 14-15, followed by the Eastern Maine Tournament Feb. 17-25. State games for classes A, C and D will be March 3.
    Team are jockeying for positions, as seen in the latest Heal Point standings.
    In Class C boys, Sumner took top ranking with a 12-1 record (59.3700 tourney points); second, Lee Academy with a 12-1 record (56.1111); third, Mattanawcook Academy with a 10-4 record (54.1975); fourth, Fort Kent with a 9-4 record (48.3025); fifth, Penquis Valley with a 10-2 record (44.5370); sixth, Orono with an 8-4 record (31.0494); seventh, Calais with a 9-2 record (30.2824); eighth, Bucksport with a 6-8 record (26.3272); ninth, Houlton with a 5-7 record (24.6914); 10th, George Stevens Academy with a 6-6 record (18.3951) and rounding out the qualifying teams is number 11 Searsport with a 4-8 record (18.0556).
    In Class D boys, Central Aroostook is the top seed holding a 12-1 record (57.4074); second, Jonesport-Beals at 10-1 (43.5542); third, Washburn with a 10-1 record (36.8827); fourth, Katahdin standing at 8-3 (35.1852); fifth, Deer Isle-Stonington with a 7-6 record (27.8436); sixth, Hodgdon with an 8-3 record (25.8025); seventh, Schenck, 5-7 record (24.6914); eighth, Easton, record of 10-3 (24.5679); ninth, Bangor Christian at 7-7 (23.8562); 10th, Machias, with 5-6 record (18.2598) 11th, GHCA holding a 4-6 record (17.1296); 12th, Fort Fairfield at 4-9, (16.9753); 13th, Penobscot Valley, 4-9 record with (16.2037); 14th, Southern Aroostook with a 6-7 record (14.7531) and 15th, Limestone/MSSM at 6-7 (14.0432).
    In Class C girls standings, Orono is a top the field at 10-2 (61.1111); second, Calais 10-0 (56.6667); third, Stearns 11-2 (45.0926); fourth, Central, 8-2 (44.3827); fifth, Houlton, 8-4 (40.8333); sixth, Fort Kent, 8-6 (37.6543); seventh, Mattanawcook Academy, 9-3 (35.5247); eighth, Dexter, 8-4 (35.3395); ninth, PCHS, 8-4 (30.2469) 10th, Narraguagus at 7-4 (27.9684) and 11th, Bucksport, 9-3 (24.6296).
    Class D girls standings are as follows: first, Washburn, 11-1 (46.9444); second, Fort Fairfield, 10-2 (46.4506); third, Van Buren 10-2 (45.8333); fourth, Central Aroostook, 9-2 (41.9753); fifth, Woodland, 10-4 (28.9252); sixth, Hodgdon, 8-6 (24.0123); seventh, Shead 6-5 (22.3247); eighth, Deer Isle-Stonington, 7-5 (20.5973); ninth, Penobscot Valley, 5-5 (18.0556); 10th, Limestone/ MSSM, 6-6 (17.7469); 11th, Schenck, 7-5 (16.1420); 12th, Machias, 4-6 (15.0373); 13th, Jonesport-Beals, 4-7 (14.1457); 14th, Easton, 7-6 (13.2099) and 15th, Southern Aroostook, 6-7 (8.8272).
    The Katahdin girls are two spots out of qualifying position at 17th with a 3-9 record (4.5062), while East Grand has a 1-11 record and rounding out the local teams is Greater Houlton Christian Academy, winless on the season thus far.
