Communities look to fill municipal seats

    Several local communities are seeking to fill positions on a number of boards, committees and councils in the coming weeks, with city officials asking for citizens to step forward and fill out the necessary paperwork to be considered for the opening of their choice.

    In Mars Hill, nomination papers are being sought for six positions, including: two council seats for three years each; one library trustee for a three-year term; one utility district director for a three-year term; and two seats for three-year terms on the SAD 42 board of directors.

    Papers must be filed with the clerk by Friday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. For more information, contact 425-3731.

    Ashland has three vacancies needing to be filled. Positions included: two seats as town councilors for three-year terms; two library trustees, both for three-year terms; and one three-year position as an Ashland Water and Sewer trustee. Nomination papers must be returned to the town office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3. For more information, call 435-2311. Ashland’s municipal election is scheduled for Monday, March 19.

    Washburn officials are also looking to fill several vacancies.

    Nomination papers are currently available for: two positions for three-year terms on the Town Council; SAD 45 Board of Directors has three three-year terms available; and there is one three-year vacancy with the Water and Sewer District Board of Trustees.

    Nomination papers are now available at the Washburn Town Office. Papers must be returned to the office no later than Thursday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. For more information, call 455-8485. Washburn’s municipal election is slated for Monday, March 19, with the Town Meeting scheduled to be held Tuesday, March 20.
