GARFIELD TOWNSHIP — A driver sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident between a pickup and a logging truck Thursday afternoon on a woods road west of Ashland.
“On Feb. 9 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Trooper Jill Monahan responded to Mile 18 of the Realty Road in Garfield Township for a report of a two-vehicle crash,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, Maine State Police.
Harris identified the pickup driver as Maurice Ryder, age 73, of Ashland. The log truck operator was identified as David Levesque, 32, of Fort Kent.
“Ryder was westbound on the Realty Road operating his 2012 Toyota pickup. Levesque was eastbound operating a 2011 Western Star tractor-trailer for Nadeau Trucking of St. Francis, hauling a load of logs. Ryder and Levesque met on a corner. Levesque attempted to avoid a collision with Ryder but skidded on the ice-covered roadway,” said Harris.
Levesque’s loaded trailer skidded into the path of Ryder’s truck, with the two vehicles colliding.
“Ryder’s pickup sustained extensive damage and is believed to be a total loss. Ryder’s airbags did deploy. Levesque’s trailer sustained minimal damage,” Harris said.
Harris said Levesque was not injured in the accident. Ryder sustained a possible broken arm, according to Harris, and was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center by Ashland Ambulance, for treatment of his injury.
Also assisting Monahan at the scene was the Ashland Police Department.
