109 take part in Caribou Ski Sprints

    CARIBOU — The middle school Nordic season is under way now that the Caribou Ski Sprints have been run.

    Approximately 109 middle school skiers from five school districts around The County converged on Teague Park in Caribou Friday for the inaugural meet of the middle school cross country ski season. The event was a unique opening event featuring ski sprints through a course that included some tight corners and a hill climb and descent.

    Rotary Club of Caribou and the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department teamed up to host the events which included a fun park, concession and racing under the lights.

    When the snow dust settled, Caribou ended up with the top score in the combined division with 19 points followed by Presque Isle with 26 points, Ashland with 31, Union 122 with 40 and Fort Kent with 41.

    First-place finishers per sprint for the girls were as follows: race 1, Anna Soderberg, CAR; race 2, Jillian Flynn, PI; race 3, Hope Shea, CAR; race 4, Emma Belyea, CAR; race 5, Madeline Gudde, CAR; race 6, Maggie Cyr, CAR; race 7, Rachael Davis, CAR; race 8, Georgiana Fields, CAR; race 9, Ciara Richards, CAR; and race 10, Meg Boone, CAR.

    The girls’ division was won by Caribou with six points, followed by Presque Isle with 10, Ashland with 19, and Union 122 and Fort Kent with 22 a piece.

    First-place finishers per sprint for the boys were as follows: race 1, Kamran Hussain, FK; race 2, Malcolm Milligan, ASH; race 3, Caleb Streinz, ASH; race 4, Gunner Bondeson, Union 122; race 5, Daniel Randolph, CAR; race 6, Peng Cheng, ASH; race 7, Caleb Brown, CAR; race 8, Nick Alfaro, Union 122; race 9, Lance Lagasse, Union 122; race 10, Josh Quist, Caribou; race 11, Nick Levesque, Union 122; and race 12, David Hunter, CAR.

    The overall team winner of the boys’ division was Ashland with 12 points followed by Caribou with 13, Presque Isle with 16, Union 122 with 18 and Fort Kent with 19.
