POLICE SEIZE DRUGS —  FS-PIPDmarijuanaArrest-cx-sh-08 A routine traffic stop on Monday resulted in the seizure of over 5 pounds of marijuana and about a half pound of hashish by the Presque Isle Police Department. Officers had stopped a Canadian driver on a traffic matter and subsequently found the drugs in his vehicle.

“At approximately 8:40 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, officers of the Presque Isle Police Department conducted a traffic stop on North Main Street of a pick-up truck driven by a 27-year-old citizen of New Brunswick,” said Corp. Wayne Selfridge, PIPD.

Selfridge indicated the PIPD’s drug-tracking dog, Dozer, was used to help in the investigation.

“The PIPD’s narcotics canine, Dozer, arrived to conduct a search. Dozer alerted on the exterior of the pickup, indicating there were drugs in the vehicle. As a result of the follow-up search, 5.2 pounds of marijuana and half a pound of hashish were seized. The estimated total street value of the drugs is $5,400,” said Selfridge.

“Dozer certainly earned his keep with this case,” he said.

The New Brunswick man, whose identity is being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation, was arrested and charged with unlawful trafficking in marijuana and hashish, both felony charges.

“Along with the drugs, $375 in cash was seized and the 2005 GMC he was driving was impounded for possible forfeiture,” said Selfridge.
