FBLA students win at convention

    PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Future Business Leaders of America at the Presque Isle Regional Career & Technical Center recently attended the state convention in Portland March 11-13.

    The students competed in individual and group testing and were judged on projects that had to be completed before the convention. Out of 10 schools from Maine, the Presque Isle FBLA received second place.

    Those receiving first place in their event(s) were: Casey Bonville, entrepreneurship; Clarissa Buck, website design; Bridgette Carrier, computer applications; Chelsey Carroll, marketing; Chris Carroll, introduction to technical concepts; JoLonna Gough, management decision making; Quinn Graves, digital video production and entrepreneurship; Garrett Hemphill, personal finance; Isaac LaJoie, management decision making; Dylan Michaud, digital video production; Grace Short, word processing I; Trey Stewart, entrepreneurship and management decision making; Shannon Sweeney, business math; and  Evan Waddell, business calculations.

    Receiving second place in their event(s) were: Emma Bartlett, word processing II; Amanda Bennett, help desk; Casey Bonville, business plan; Chelsey Carroll, accounting II, American Enterprise Project, business communications and Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit; Logan Good, e-business; JoLonna Gough, emerging business issues and impromptu speaking; Quinn Graves, local chapter business report and sports management; Grayden Hemphill, e-business; Osman Mendieta-Castro, emerging business issues; Jacob Player, e-business; Travis Powers, emerging business issues; Trey Stewart, business ethics; Shannon Sweeney, introduction to business communications; and Bonnie Zeng, business calculations, business presentations and management information systems.

    Third-place winners were: Emma Bartlett, accounting I; Casey Bonville, electronic career portfolio and job interview; Clarissa Buck, introduction to business communications; Chelsey Carroll, word processing II; Chris Carroll, public speaking I; Abbie Carrier, Chapter Activity Display Award Merit; Garrett Hemphill, marketing; Isaac LaJoie, desktop publishing; David Paradis, database design and application; Travis Powers, banking and financial systems; Lauren Schiff, future business leader; Grace Short, client services; Jacob Towle, computer applications; Emily Transue, desktop publishing; and Evan Waddell, health care administration.

    The state FBLA recognized Kirk Carroll as the Business Person of the Year, Casey Bonville as the New Member of the Year, and Grayden Hemphill as the Outstanding Freshman of the Year. Emily Transue was elected as the state vice president for FBLA.
