Baccalaureate service held for seniors

    The annual baccalaureate service was held at the Easton High School gym on Sunday night, June 3. We are very privileged to still have the baccalaureate service.

    Our local pastors all took part in it. Pastor Vaughn Martin did the welcome and invocation. Some selections were sung by the high school choir. Pastor Greg Jackson read the scripture reading and gave the prayer of blessing. Some songs were sung by the audience, with Pastor Andy DeRier leading.

    The message was given by Pastor Rob McDowell. The benediction was given by Pastor Merritt Durost.

Alumni Supper

    The annual Alumni Supper was held at the Easton Elementary School cafeteria with 120 attending. The welcoming and opening remarks were given by the Master of Ceremonies Mike Corey (Class of 1972).

    The roll call was given and then a moment of silence was observed. The blessing was given by Mike Corey and then dinner was served.

    The school song was sung. The Class of 2012 was introduced by Superintendent Georgette Ireland.

    This year’s Senior Class includes: Abigail Poole, Amanda Dayringer, Ariana Babineau, Codie Stewart, Cody Tompkins, Danielle Dudley, Garrett Gray, Holden Turner, Jessica Bennett, Jessica Lawrence, Jolene Geurette, Jonah Bacon, Meghan Frank, Sarah Plourde, Taylor Nightingale, Mikaela Hathaway, Nathan Beaton, Nicholas Monroe, Reid Clark and Samantha Buck.

    There was special music by Taylor Lawrence. There were presentations of scholarships and gifts by Jessica Blackstone (Class of 1999), Elaine White ( Class of 1978) and Jeremy Corey (Class of 2000). The classes of 1962 and 1987 were also honored.

Student of the Year Award

    KASSIE LOVELY, of Easton, proudly displays her degree from Husson University in Bangor.

    On Saturday, May 5, Kassie Jo Lovely — who was class salutatorian — graduated from Husson University in Bangor, with a master’s in occupational therapy and a B.S. in psychology. Kassie is a 2007 graduate of Easton High School, where she also earned the honor of salutatorian and with it a full scholarship to Husson. She is the daughter of Patrick and Sally Lovely of Easton.

 

Kayak camp

    Kayak camp will be offered June 18, 20, 21 and 22. Sessions will start each day at  12:15 p.m. at the Hall. The cost is $30 and pre-registration is required! Open to children who have completed grade 5 and up. Come prepared to get wet.

 

Archery camp

    New this year we’ll be offering an archery camp on June 20, 21 and 22. There will be two age groups: grades 3-5 from 9-10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to noon for grades 6 and up. The cost is $30. Classes will take place at  the Hall. Must have 15 participants to run this program.

 

NEW SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Rec calendar

    Wednesday, June 13 — “Kick-off-to-Summer” after school until 4:15 p.m. at the Hall  for grades 1-8. 

    Thursday, June 14 — Father’s Day gifts after school until 4:15 p.m. at the Hall.  Open to grades 1-8. Minor League practice from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

    Friday, June 15 — Hershey practice at the Presque Isle track, departing from the elementary school at noon and returning to the Hall at 2 p.m. 

    Sunday, June 17 — Softball games; East Ridge vs. Mutual Aid at 6 p.m. and Fire against DFI starting at 7:15 p.m.

  Monday, June 18 — Kayak camp starting at 12:15 p.m. at the Hall. Pre-registration required. Open to grades 5 and up. Girls’ Night from 5-8 p.m. at the Hall.  Pre-registration is preferred. The cost is $3.  Zumba class from 6-7 p.m. in the elementary school gym. Pre-registration is preferred. 

    Tuesday, June 19 — Hershey Track and Field Competition in Caribou, contests start at 10 a.m. Participants should be at Caribou High School by no later than 9:30 a.m.

Boys’ Night from 5-7 p.m. at the Hall. Pre-registration is preferred. The cost is $3.

DFI will take on Recreation Department at 6 p.m. and East Ridge will play Triple A’s at 7:15 p.m.
