Collins 5K walk/run

CARIBOU, Maine – In 1994, the first S.W. Collins Company 5K run/walk and kids fun run was held. Eighteen years later, the race is still a favorite of the running community and loops twice on the streets of Caribou – starting and finishing where logs once floated in the Collins Pond 168 years ago.
This year’s race, the third in the Aroostook Musterds Running Club’s County Challenge Series, will take place June 24. Registration takes place in the S.W. Collins parking lot (located at 6 Washburn Street in Caribou) beginning at 8:30 a.m. The kids fun races begin at 9 a.m, walkers in the 5K start at 9:45 a.m. and runners at 10 a.m.
The fun run takes place in the yard of S.W. Collins, looping around the buildings and running along the pond. There are five racing divisions: 4 and under, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. The race will range from sprints to three laps around the buildings.
For the 5K, divisions run from 14-and-under to 70-and-over, along with the walker’s division.
All proceeds from the $12 registration fee will be donated to Caribou High School athletics. The first 75 to register will receive a T-shirt. There will also be a drawing for a pair of Asics running shoes,  donated by Sleepers’ Shopping Center in Caribou.
