A TWO-VEHICLE accident at the intersection of Park and Dyer streets May 24 was blamed on driver inattention. FS-PIPDParkDyerAcct-c-sh-22 Here, Timothy Scott, of Mapleton, operator of the pickup, explains to PIPD Officer Kevin Schumacher how the other vehicle came off Dyer Street and struck him as he traveled west on Park Street.

The Presque Isle Police Department received a 9-1-1 call around 2:53 p.m. reporting an accident. The caller indicated one vehicle was in the ditch. A second call was received, with the person advising emergency personnel to hurry.

Officer Kevin Schumacher, assisted by Officer Lynn Hartley, responded to investigate.

Schumacher determined that a 1996 Buick Park Avenue, operated by Alban Thibodeau, 86, of Caribou, was traveling north on Dyer Street. Timothy Scott, 64, of Mapleton, was traveling west on Park Street in his 1997 Chevy S10 pick-up truck. Thibodeau proceeded through the intersection, failing to yield to Scott, with Scott’s truck striking the right side of the Buick, causing the car to veer off the road onto a lawn just off Dyer Street.

Thibodeau’s wife, Carmen Thibodeau, 91, was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center by Crown Ambulance, complaining of pain in her right side. Both drivers sustained only minor injuries.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged, with Jerry’s Towing called to tow Scott’s truck, and BC Towing removed Thibodeau’s car from the scene.

Schumacher determined driver inattention was the cause of the crash.
