LIMESTONE — While not its first public debut, the new cruiser of the Limestone Police Department turned more than a few heads as it led Limestone’s Fourth of July Parade down Main Street earlier this month.

The brand new 2013 six-cylinder Ford Taurus arrived on June 23, an installation of the new vehicle’s police lighting and additional electronics was accomplished in house primarily by Officer Ron Guillemette, which saved the department approximately $1,500.

The vinyl graphics adorning the vehicle were made and applied by Boulevard Graphics in Limestone.

Limestone Police Chief Stacey Mahan said that the new cruiser has already shown that it’s just as good as the department’s former V-8 vehicles, “but it certainly gets better gas mileage.”

The new Taurus will join the department’s other two vehicles, a 2006 SUV, which will be put into storage until its capabilities are needed this winter, and a 1997 pick-up truck.
