PI rec swimmers dominate meet

    LIMESTONE — For the second year, the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department and the Limestone Recreation Department partnered to host the first swim meet of the 2012 summer season. The meet was held at Limestone Community School’s indoor pool.

    The meet, the first of three meets offered through the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association, offered a variety of aquatic races to 88 swimmers from Presque Isle, Caribou, Fort Fairfield and Limestone.


    Presque Isle’s team of 47 swimmers combined to score a total of 454 points to capture the title while Fort Fairfield came in second with 156 and the combined Caribou/Limestone team tallied 125.

    Capturing high point titles were: 8-and-under girls, Madison Hedrich and Caijsa Benson, both of Presque Isle; 8-and-under boys, Chase Coiley of Fort Fairfield; 9-10 girls, Belle Thibault of Presque Isle; 9-10 boys, Josh Watson of Presque Isle; 11-12 girls, Maddie Wing of Presque Isle; 11-12 boys, Leigh Buck of Presque Isle; 13-14 girls, Sarah Watt of Fort Fairfield; 13-14 boys, Parker Lambert of Presque Isle; 15-18 girls, Kaleigh Kinney of Presque Isle; and 15-18 boys, Alex Hemphill of Presque Isle.

    Winning multiple events for the victorious PI team were Hedrich in the 8-and-under girls, Ryllan Thibeault in 8-and-under boys, Belle Thibeault in 9-10 girls, Watson in 9-10 boys, Wing in 11-12 girls, Ryan Watson and Buck in 11-12 boys, Lambert in 13-14 boys, Kinney and Erica Hemphill in 15-18 girls; and Alex Hemphill in 15-18 boys.

    The next meet will be held in Fort Fairfield today as part of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival.
