SIGN LANGUAGE SESSION

Presque Isle Girl Scout Troop 1137 recently participated in a two-hour Sign Language learning session held at the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle.  The event was led and conducted by Sign Language Instructor and Library Assistant, Sue Roberts, along with support from her husband, Jeff Roberts.

The girls learned about  the history of Sign Language, variations of dialects in its use, the use of manners in signing, and how to sign their own names, the alphabet; numbers, what time it is, the days of the week, general greetings, expressions, and requests; family and animal names; and ‘The Girl Scout Promise.’ GS Troop 1137 members in attendance were, in front from left, Sophia Morton, Natalie Renaud and Laurel Brown. Middle row, Erinn Kelly, Lily Hanks, Allison Morton, Amelia Dyer, Madyson Wark, Eva Callioras, Courtney Harding, Caroline Brown and Josalyn Wark. In back is Sign Language Instructor, Sue Roberts. Also participating, but not pictured, were Jeff Roberts; Elizabeth Dyer of GS Troop 1178; GS Troop 1137 Leaders Dina Harding and Roxanne Poole, along with GS parents Melissa Dyer, Cathy Kelly, Suzanne Morton, Beth Brown and Steve Callioras. Girl Scout members of Troop 1137 not present were  Jeanna Knight, Lexee McKinney and Abigail Poole.
