Hartford to be inducted posthumously into Maine Baseball Hall of Fame

    A former Presque Isle High School standout athlete and New Limerick resident is being inducted posthumously into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame Aug. 5.
    Wayne Hartford, a 1961 graduate who was inducted into the inaugural class of PIHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011, struck out an average of 13 batters per game his senior year and compiled a career record of 19-2 and an earned run average of 2.21.

    He went on to star at Husson College and is also a member of its Hall of Fame.
    Hartford, who passed away last spring, will be represented at the ceremony by Jim Carter of Presque Isle, a high school baseball teammate and friend of Hartford’s. The event is taking place at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.
    Other inductees into the 2012 Maine Baseball Hall of Fame class are Peter Adams of Hollis, Bill Fairchild of Monmouth, John Kezal of Rumford, Wilfred Laverdiere of Monmouth, Dave Sprague of Hoosick Falls,  N.Y., Brud Stover of West Bath, Ralph Stowell of Portland, Mark Sutton of Portland and Stan Timberlake of Turner.
