Getman named GM at Bigrock

MARS HILL — Maine Winter Sports Center President Andy Shepard announced recently that local resident Bill Getman has assumed the role of general manager of Bigrock Ski Area.

Getman moved to Mars Hill two years ago from Nantucket, Mass. and worked at the resort during the 2011-12 season as a marketing consultant and lift operator. Getman began his new duties at the mountain July 9.

“We are very excited to have Bill step into this position and join the Bigrock management team,” said Shepard. “He brings a multitude of business experience and will help the mountain continue to successfully meet its’ mission of making skiing affordable, enjoyable and accessible for the residents of Maine and New Brunswick.”

Previously in his career, Getman held high-level managerial positions for the likes of The Polaroid Corporation, Smith Corona and Neff Motivation. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with degrees in marketing and management.

“One of the first things that our family did upon moving here was purchase a family ski pass at Bigrock,” Getman said. “We knew from the very beginning that the mountain is a tremendous asset to the region. Not only is it a great place to ski and snowboard, it is a year-round resource for outdoor recreation.”

“I know from experience that the facility already has a terrific management team in place,” Getman continued. “We have many exciting changes on the agenda for the coming season, and I look forward to applying my experience and enthusiasm to Bigrock’s day-to-day operations.”

In addition to his general manager duties, Getman will spearhead a ‘Friends of Bigrock’ campaign that will work to raise funds to help achieve the goal of providing affordable wintertime recreation and to maintain the facility’s central role in the culture of the area.

“I am very pleased that we were able to find a professional of Bill’s caliber to join our team,” Shepard said. “I am confident that his skills, experience, and abilities will serve to enhance the progress of the ski area, and that he will continue to build upon the development that Bigrock has undergone over the last decade.”
