Griffeth Ford wins men’s softball title
The Caribou-Presque Isle men’s slow pitch softball season wrapped up Sunday, with Griffeth Ford taking home the trophy once again.
The tourney was held in Presque Isle Saturday and in Caribou Sunday.
The champs, who went 16-0 during the regular season, had to work for playoff title as they fell to Sports Inn Saturday in the double-elimination tournament.
Gagnon’s Auto went through the winner’s bracket undefeated to face the Ford team in the championship game and lost by three runs forcing the “if necessary” game. Griffeth Ford seemed to pick up some momentum as their bats got hot in the 18-8 victory.
Vic Coroniti hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and a walk-off homer in the fifth inning to seal the game. Other top hitters for the Ford team were Brian Morrison, Cameron Anderson and Phil St.Peter, who each went 3 for 4. Dan Umphrey, Seth McCrossin, Butch O’Clair and Jason House all added two hits, with Clinton St. Peter handling the pitching duties.
Other teams that played in the tournament were T.W. Willard, who had come in second place during the regular season, along with CPT, Buck’s Construction, County Boys, JHK Storage/Nepco and Bull Dogs.
