Thursday, Aug. 9
• F.A. Peabody’s Open House event will celebrate the businesses’ 10 years in Caribou. Hot Dog, Chips and Drinks will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.; enjoy lunch while meeting the staff and friends of F.A. Peabody Company of Caribou, located at 25 Sweden Street.
• Nylander Museum Scavenger Hunt: explore a variety of exhibits throughout the museum with the staff of the Nylander! Discover or re-discover the finding of Caribou’s famed Olaf Nylander — the event is free for explorers of ages!
• Fourth Annual Movin’ & Groovin’ Tye-Dye Extravaganza at the Caribou Rec Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participants have the opportunity to design their own tie-dye shirts for $1 each. Music will be provided by Tim the Tuneman. A free Hot Dog barbeque will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., sponsored by the Aroostook Republican. Other treats available include popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and balloons, sponsored by H&R Block. The Extravaganza features games, face painting, crafts, prizes and much more!
• Chili Cook Off and Tasting, sponsored by the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department. Trophies and bragging rights will be awarded to the top chili cookers. Entry fee is $10, and chili tasting begins at 4 p.m. FMI: 551-3832.
• Kieffer Agency’s Customer Appreciation Day Ice Cream Social begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. As always, the fun family event features multiple flavors of free Goughan’s homemade ice-cream, free giveaways, a chance to meet Snoopy and enjoy activities provided by the U.S. Army. Kieffer’s is located at 101 High Street
• Caribou Cares about Kids Parade starts at the Skyway Plaza and runs all the way to the Caribou Courthouse. Line up begins at 5 p.m. and the parade commences at 6 p.m. To enter a float, register at www.cariboumaine.net.
• Fair Food will be served up in all its annual deliciousness, sponsored by American Legion, Post 15.
• Movie Night Under The Stars is a great family-friendly event held in the park at dusk. This year’s featured movie is “The Muppets,” and the event is sponsored by Cary Medical Center and Pines Health Services.
• Snow and Sky in August Star Watch will be held at the Nylander Museum at 8 p.m. A small fleet of optical telescopes will entertain and educate the public, free of charge. This event is weather permitting. The Nylander Museum is located at 657 Main Street.
• The Caribou Farmers’ Market will be open from 8:30 a.m. until noon at 159 Bennett Drive and will feature a fundraiser for the Mark D. LeBlanc Memorial Scholarship, delicious treats available from the vendors, including ice cream, herbs, veggies, berries, baked goods, jams and jellies. Special to the festival, there will also be an antique tractor show, face painting, music, balloons and a chance to meet the Aroostook County Agricultural icon Spuddy.
• Strawberry Shortcake Sale at Teague Park from 10 a.m. until members of the Kiwanis Club run out of supplies for their annual fundraiser.
• Adventure Park at Teague Park from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., featuring inflatables, snacks, balloons, games and prizes. New this year to the event is a Waterslide Ride to help participants stay cool in the August heat. This event is sponsored by Cary Medical Center, Pines Health Services and the Caribou Recreation Department.
• CHIPS (Child Identification) Program, sponsored annually by members of the Caribou Masonic Lodge, will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Teague Park.
• Food Vendors of the American Legion Post 15, Veterans Memorial Park Association, New Life Community Church, All About Me Girls, and Presque Isle Youth Hockey will be serving up treats for festival participants to raise funds for their organizations.
• Three-Hole Mini Golf Course will be featured for festival fun at the Caribou Church of Nazarene.
• A Balloon War will be orchestrated by members of the Caribou High School Class of 2013.
• A Pig Roast will be served up by members of the Relay for Life team Warrior Walkers; the roast, held at the Lions Picnic Area on Collins Pond, will be held from 5 until 7p.m. and the meal is $8 for adults, $5 for kids.
• Back to School Bingo will be held at the American Legion from noon until 2 p.m., sponsored by Senior Citizens Bingo.
• Ride Aroostook features a 150 mile scenic two day bike ride through Aroostook County. FMI – 1-888-298-6123.
• Enman Riverside Disc Golf is free all all weekend for kids 15 and under; children must be supervised by an adult. The business is located at 976 Presque Isle Rd.
