One race remains in series

    The Aug. 11 running of the County Open Half-Marathon road race completed the sixth of seven County Challenge Road Race Series races for the year. The age group and overall division leaders for the series have been established. Marie Beckum leads the closely-contested women’s division with 43 points, followed by Nicole Green (38) and Gabrielle Cyr (33).

    The men’s division has P.J. Gorneault in first place (53) followed by Evan Graves (38) and Chris Rines (31).

    Age group leaders in the women’s division include: 14 and under: Alexis Coiley, Mandy Graham and Maura Freme tied for first place with 11 points; 15-18: Kendra Stephens (23), Kelly Kashian (18) and Emily Wright (16); 19-29: Nicole Green (49), Marie Beckum (37) and Gabrielle Cyr (33); 30-39: Linda Gover (31), Amy Chartier (16) and Kate Knowles (16); 40-49: Angela Ewings (33), Ellen Bemis (16) and Brenda Bailey (15); 50-59: Kimberley Wright (55) and Barb Turner (11); 60-69: Connie McLellan tied for first place with 11 points.

    For the men, age group leaders are: 14 and under: Evan Desmond (22), Craig Schiff (18) and Daniel Randolph (17); 15-18:  Lucas Kinney (28), Tyler Strid (24), Alex Losieniecki and Trevor Levesque tied for second (19); 19-29: Chris Rines (48), Joey Bard (22) and Justin Fereshetian (20); 30-39: P.J. Gorneault (55), Evan Graves (44) and Thomas Beckum (36); 40-49: Jeff Irving (37), Jeff Ashby (22) and Randy Johnson (20); 50-59: Leo Kashian (53), Brent Jepson (35) and Roy Alden (29); 60-69: Larry Tonzi (44), Jim Nesbitt (11), Don Zillman and Nick Pesut tied for third (9); and 70 and over: Art Thompson (22) and Clint Cushman (11).

    The walkers division is led by Rene Gorneault with 11 points, followed by Kathy Mazzuchelli (9) and Marcal Mantane (8).

    The final series race is the Sept. 3 Caribou Labor Day Road Race. The season finishes up with the 30th annual Aroostook Musterds Running Club awards being presented in late October with the date, location and time to be determined.

    The series is sponsored by the Aroostook Musterds Running Club, a family organization which encourages the development of health, fitness, and healthy competition through the sport of running. Each year the club awards a $500 scholarship to a student entering college who plans to continue running either competitively or for fitness at her/his chosen institution. Funds are raised from membership dues and advertisements sold for inclusion in the annual Musterds’ “Aroostook Road Racing Calendar.”
