ATLC to host road race as part of balloon festival

    A five-kilometer road race, sponsored by the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp program, will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 as part of the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest.

    Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at The Forum in Presque Isle, and the race will start at the main entrance of The Forum at 10 a.m. The race course goes down Judd Street, onto State Street and the Loop Road, turning onto Central Drive and Edgemont Drive. Runners then will turn onto Airport Drive and reconnect with Central Drive to return to The Forum.

    Registration fee is $10 with shirts being given to the first 20 registrants. There will be three race classes: under 12, 12-18, and 18 years and older. Medals will be awarded to the overall female winner and male winner. Water and snacks will be available at the end of the race.

    The Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp is a leadership development and drug prevention program of Aroostook Mental Health Services, Inc. and has been serving the teens of Aroostook County since 1987.

Soccer season tickets on sale now at PIHS

    Season tickets for Presque Isle High School varsity soccer are available Monday through Friday at the athletics office from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $30.

    They will also be available at the ticket booth at any varsity home game. These passes are good for regular season games only. Call 764-6507 for more information.

 

Washburn native named scholar-athlete

    Kelsee McLaughlin Perkins of Washburn was named a North Eastern Athletic Conference scholar athlete for the 2011-12 school year.

    Perkins was a member of the Lancaster Bible College women’s soccer team.

 

Bell records ace at Presque Isle CC

    Katie Bell scored the most recent hole-in-one at Presque Isle Country Club.

    Bell used a driver on the 125-yard fourth hole for her first career ace Sunday. The shot was witnessed by Tony Roy.

 

Cornerstone golf tourney to be played Saturday

    Cornerstone Christian Academy’s sixth annual golf tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 at Caribou Country Club.

    Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start will be held at 8:30 a.m. The format is a three-person scramble and the fee is $120 per team or $40 for individuals.

    Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three gross and net teams. Longest drive and closest to pin competitions will be held and four hole-in-one prizes will be up for grabs. The top prize will be $15,000 cash.

Caribou Cycle Classic scheduled for Sunday

    On Sunday, Aug. 26, the Caribou Cycle Classic bike race will be held starting at Caribou High School. Participants can choose to do either a 25-mile road bike race or 10-mile road bike tour. Road racing registration is from 9-10 a.m. on race day. The race will start at 10 am. T-shirts will go to first 75 registrations.

    There are also 5K and 10K mountain bike races with registration from noon-1 p.m., with the race starting at 1 p.m. Registration fees are adults $10 for one race or $15 for both (road and off-road.) The student fee is $5 for one race or $10 for both (road & off-road).

    There will also be mountain bike events from 1-3 pm for all ages at no fees. Come try your skills on the uphill slalom and the obstacle course. Concessions will be available from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. An awards ceremony will take place at 3 p.m.
