Youth hockey to begin; players, coaches sought

The Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association (SAMHA) is getting ready to start its season and is seeking new players and coaches. SAMHA has programs to accommodate all preschool through high school age children, including a learn to skate program for all ages so no experience is necessary to get started.
Organization members would like to see an increase in the number of adults interested in coaching and refereeing. Head coaches, assistant coaches and team managers are being sought and is a great way to give back to the community. Practices will start Oct. 1, which means the SAMHA board needs to select coaches and have registration within the next two weeks. SAMHA had to change website hosts so the website is not complete, but some information is available and contact information for the president and coordinator are online at samhahockey.org. Information should be going home with students by next week.
Important items for parents to know this year are: fees did not go up from last year; between Oct. 1 and the end of February, teams practice twice a week, play a 16-game schedule, including eight home and eight games in either Orono, Bangor or Brewer; and scholarships are available and encouraged for families who need them in order to participate. SAMHA provides pants and all pads (donated skates and gloves are provided as available),  participants are welcome from Danforth to Patten to Bridgewater.
