The Houlton High School football team dropped a hard-fought game against Dexter Oct. 1, 26-12.
Leading 12-6 in the third quarter on the strength of a two-touchdown effort by quarterback Jake Drew, a series of miscues and turnovers led to the team’s demise.
“We are a young team.” said coach Brian Reynolds. “These things happen. I’m proud of their effort. We will get back to the practice field and work on a few things.”
In Bar Harbor on Monday the team faced MDI.
With standout Sam St. John out of the defensive lineup, Dakota Grammour commendably covered his defensive end position.
The first half was filled with ‘bus lag’ errors and penalties.
The Shires responded with some prodding from Reynolds and recorded their third win and second shutout, 13-0.
Drew ran for two touchdowns —  a 45-yarder and a five-yard dive. He also converted a point after touchdown (PAT).
The team travels to Washington Academy on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
