CARIBOU — Participants from the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s Take It Outside Adult Series (TIOAS) recently embarked on three outings to further enjoy fall and Aroostook County.
The first trip was a guided tour of the MSAD 1 School Farm and Putnam’s Wagon Rides in Mapleton, where participants were able to search for hidden pumpkins in a large field.
On Sept. 29 some of the Caribou area’s adventurous residents ventured into the North Maine Woods for a hike into the abandoned locomotives on the shores of Eagle and Chamberlain Lakes on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
On Oct. 4, 18 area residents headed across the border to New Brunswick, where they traveled south to King’s Landing Historical Settlement for a guided horse drawn wagon ride around the park and lunch at the King’s Head Inn
On Oct. 11, eager participants of the TIOAS program took a trip south, traveling first to Millinocket for a brief stop at the Baxter State Park Headquarters. Participants viewed a short presentation highlighting Baxter State Park, followed by a brief question and answer session by park staff. Upon completion, the group piled back into the van and headed to the park — first visiting Roaring Brook Campground, Abol, Katahdin Stream and finally Daicey Pond where they paused for lunch and an unparalleled photo opportunity from the dock at Daicey Pond. After lunch participants boarded the van heading northward visiting briefly at Ledge Falls, Nesowadnehunk Field and the north part of the park before finally exiting the park at Matagamon Lake.
It’s been a busy fall at the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department, and there’s still many outings planned. All individuals physically capable are welcome to participate. The November adult Lunch and Learn programs will also be open to all individuals, regardless of age.
On Oct. 18, TIOAS participants can take a trip to the Bradford Camps on Munsungan Lake; a day hike will be lead at Deboullie Public Reserve Lands on Saturday, Oct. 20 and trips to visit Bouchard Family Ployes and Orchard Hill Farms will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
