PRESQUE ISLE — A Washburn Road home sustained minor damage Friday when a wheel came off a farm trailer as it passed the residence.
The resident, identified as Dale Day, reported the incident to the Presque Isle Police Department around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. Day indicated the wheel struck his house and caused damage. He also said the wheel upset his 55 gallon propane tank. The man indicated he’d shut off the tank because he could smell gas. Day told the dispatcher he’d called Dead River as well.
According to the police log, the driver of the vehicle towing the trailer went back and retrieved the wheel to try to reattach it to the trailer.
Sgt. Mark Barnes, PIPD, responded to investigate. The Presque Isle Fire Department also responded, as a precautionary measure. Police requested Dead River be contacted again to get someone out to the home as soon as possible, since the tank was on its side.
It was determined the vehicle hauling the trailer was a 1999 International owned by Smith Farms Inc. of Presque Isle and operated by Michael Allen, 20, of Limestone.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident. No estimate of damages to the home or trailer were available at presstime.
