HOULTON — Effective Tuesday and until November 1st, officers of the Houlton Police Department will be donning pink bands around their badges to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All of the officers on the department know of at least one family member, relative or friend who have become afflicted with or died as a result of this life threatening illness, according to Chief Butch Asselin.
“The Houlton Police Department wants to do its part to bring awareness and to show our support for families, survivors and members of the community who have been impacted by this deadly disease,” he said. “To my knowledge, the Houlton Police Department is the first law enforcement agency in the state to wear the pink bands around their badges,” he said. “This will become an annual event for HPD.”
