CARIBOU — Every die-hard Boston Red Sox fan would be excited to hear that their team was coming to town. It just so happens that on Nov. 19, the team did just that. True, it may not have been players from the team here for a game of baseball, but the impression this particular group representing the Boston Red Sox left on one Caribou organization was just as impressive.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Boston’s Fenway Park, and to commemorate the occasion, the Boston Red Sox embarked on a campaign to commit 100 acts of kindness across the country before year’s end. It was act number 94 that brought the Boston Red Sox representatives to the Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry in order to meet a delivery of 100 donated frozen turkeys.

The turkeys arrived via a Sysco truck around noon, and a group of volunteers, including the Boston Red Sox representatives, were on hand to help unload them.

“We have the best fans ever,” said Stephanie Maneikis, Boston Red Sox senior manager of fan services and entertainment. “The point is to give back and say thank you.”

According to Jessica Feeley, CEFP’s coordinator, the birds were being shared with the Caribou Baptist Church and Catholic Charities. The food pantry will keep the remainder and distribute them to larger families in need for the Christmas season.

“We are very grateful to the Red Sox,” remarked Feeley. “We had everything but turkeys, and now we don’t have to buy turkeys!”

The Boston Red Sox representatives were also making a stop in Danforth for a turkey delivery before heading back to Beantown. Danforth happened to be chosen at random, but Caribou has a special connection to the Boston Red Sox. Their assistant head groundskeeper, Jason Griffeth, is originally from Caribou.
