Travis Milton has been hired as the new boys varsity basketball coach at Greater Houlton Christian Academy.
Milton is a 2000 graduate of GHCA where he played basketball under coach Terry Cummings.
“This is my first varsity experience,” Milton explained. “I have experience playing and I played for the coaches these guys have had.”
Milton said he was thinking of applying for a coach’s position for about the last two years. So, when he got the call to see if he was interested in the job, it was a no brainer.

“I really couldn’t say ‘no,’” Milton said. “It’s nice to come back and contribute to the school and hopefully, build the program.”
Milton is employed at Houlton Walmart as a department manager.
“I’m very pleased with the hiring of Travis Milton and he has hit the ground running,” said GHCA Athletic Director Barrett Potter. “He jumped in and coached at the Fort Fairfield preseason tournament on the second day of work. His love of basketball and desire to give back to the school are evident. I look forward to a successful season with him as head coach.”
“I am really looking forward to coaching,” Milton said. “I have a little bit different personality than [what the boys may be used to] as I am not quite as intense.”
Milton plans on bringing out the boys’ strengths, while helping them improve.
The Eagles played in the Fort Fairfield preseason tourney and Milton was pleased with his team’s performance.
“We played pretty well,” he said. “In three preseason games, I did not have a full team. But, the boys played through it. Once we get everyone, it will be a little easier to judge where we are at heading into the season.”
The Eagles open their season on Thursday at the University of Maine Presque Isle, as they host Wisdom at 7 p.m. To catch the Eagles closer to home, the girls and boys varsity teams will host East Grand on Dec. 22 in 1 and 2:30 p.m. games.
