PI hockey suffers 2 lopsided losses

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Class A Bangor and the defending Class B champion Messalonskee Eagles visited the Forum for games against the Wildcats last week, and the visitors came away with easy victories.

Presque Isle fell to 1-3 on the season after losing to the Rams last Tuesday, 15-4, and to the Eagles Saturday, 12-2.

The ’Cats have now given up 50 goals in their four matches. The team’s game against the Blackhawks last night in Houlton was postponed. Presque Isle takes on Brewer in a road contest Saturday.

In the loss to Bangor, PI was outshot, 33-12, and surrendered nine first-period goals.

Parker Sanderson, formerly a Houlton-Hodgdon Blackhawk who transferred to Bangor in 2011, had five goals and two assists for the winners.

Presque Isle picked up its first goal when Tyler Seeley scored off assists by Adam Flynn and Alex Michaud. Ryder Soucy and Daniel Boucher scored their first varsity goals later in the game and Flynn scored the team’s other goal. Alex Michaud picked up his second assist of the game on Boucher’s goal.

Messalonskee dominated Saturday’s game with a 41-18 margin in shots on goal.

The Eagles led 2-0 after the first period and held an 11-0 advantage until Seeley scored with 5:55 left off assists by Colin McKay and Boucher and Flynn tallied with 4:27 to go, with Alex Michaud and Joseph Patenaude assisting on the scoring play.

Messalonskee closed out the scoring with 10 seconds to play to account for the final margin.
